Citizenship w/ Spain
Mon, 10/11/2004 - 18:26
Hello,
I have been working on a family research project and found out my great grandfather was born in Spain. This was quite a suprise for my family and I. I was thinking about looking into dual citizenship with Spain. Does anyone know the rules behind doing this? And how much work is required to obtain it? Thanks for your help.

I was born in argentina and got the spanish citizenship through my grandparents. My dad had to become spanish before he could pass in onto me. I don’t know if it work with great grandparents though. You have to get your relative’s birth certificate, that’s all I know (I didn’t do the paperwork), the embassy or consulate can help you with that, so you should contact them. The whole thing takes about 6 months, and you will be given a passport. If you plan to move to spain, you have to get a DNI (ID card) once you are there.
Sorry I can’t help you more
good luck!
From what I’ve read you have to have a parent who is/was a Spanish citizen.
