I am confused by your use of “mileage” and “tickets” — they’re not necessarily the same. Did you have some mileage tickets reserved to CDG with BA?

Or do you mean that seats were showing available for purchase with BA miles that you have accumulated, but now they are not showing available anymore?

It’s definitely tough to book summer tickets using miles unless you do it many months in advance, but if you really want to go this summer and you’re willing to be flexible don’t give up yet. Try calling BA and get an agent to check for you. Their agents should be able to put you in seats on their partner airlines, which you often can’t do when booking award travel online. Now here’s where being flexible comes into play – they might not have seats for the exact dates you want, or seats to CDG since it is such a popular destination. The agent should be able to see what seats are open for other European cities – maybe you can fly into BRU, LON, AMS, which all offer fairly cheap/quick ways to get to Paris. I completely understand if you prefer to wait until next year when you can fly into Paris on the exact dates you want. If so, airlines typically open up seats 330 days in advance.

My wife and I were trying to book tickets from SFO to London, and home from Rome this summer, but United’s website showed no seats available. I called and the agent found an open seat on Air Canada from SFO-London, but nothing from Rome. She went through many combinations of cities and finally found us seats from Zurich back to SFO.

Augustin25, You are indeed: I will call BA and check with the agent then; I look everywhere in their website and can not see how to links up and redeem my BA miles to any partners… So in the nut-shelf, we should have all (acceptable) destinations map-out before calling the BA agent, right ? that will widen our options.

Yes, communicate your flexibility with BA’s mileage booking agents. Brussels is not too far by train, and would be a good alternative for getting to Paris. Also if you can simply get to London and purchase seats on Eurostar to Paris, it might be worth it. Let them know how much flexibility you have on days for all of this too. Flexibility is usually the key—the more, the better.

It’s sad. They have 1 spot but we need 4 and need to use them all at once since we have small kids. I will keep try for the month of April but it seems 88% dead this year. If we decide to book the earliest (11 months in advance ), we will redeem all 4 tickets: we still need to pay 2 more kids tickets out of our pocket: I should pay for them at the same time, true ? there are too much risk involve if we do it at a later date ?

Have you tried redeeming your miles with BA partner American Airlines? They also serve SFO and Heathrow. It might be worth checking it out.

Don, AA do not accept BA miles for transatlantic flight. I checked their web-site and confirmed with a BA agent…. He did suggest calling weekly so I will try it but I can not reserve any hotels, transportation until it book so I think it is a dead-deal on my end

When I booked my awards flights with BA, I had a very creative agent who managed to book flights when I couldn’t find anything on the website. However I had a hard time finding a return flight at the beginning of June even though I booked back in February. I would certainly suggest trying to book your award flights much earlier if you have to go in summer.
