Copper Canyon, Mexico
Mon, 03/14/2005 - 03:04
Just saw Copper Canyon featured in the ‘Pilot Guides’ Travel TV Series, and wondered, has anyone traveled up there, I liked the idea of the train trip and the hiking in the Canyon
I was there this summer. What do you want to know?
What I saw from the programme, you can’t walk the canyon alone, should I prebook the guide before I get there, how long did you walk for, also they say to prebook the ticket, did you. Thanks
I didn’t prebook the train ticket, I just showed up, it leaves pretty early though, like 7 oclock first class and 8 oclock 2nd, or around there. (leaving from los mochis anyway)
THE town to stay at is creel. From there you can take daytrips to most anywhere. I didn’t book a guide but I only hitchhiked out to areas of the canyon, hiked around for a few hours then hitched back to creel, if you actually wanted like some 4 day hike then you may need to book ahead I don’t know. There are always guys around the main square in creel with pickup trucks wanting to drive you places for a fee, wether any of them offer any overnight hikes or anything I don’t know. You can walk the canyon alone, meaning that there is no law against it or no permits or anything you need, it just depends on how good you are at not getting lost.
Let me know if you have any more questions.
Thanks for your info, must appreicated
