My friend and I travelled Europe for 10 weeks this summer. I had an old Lonely Planet book and he had a new Let’s Go book. They were both Western European editions.

Lonely Planet – great maps
Let’s Go – infamous for having horrible maps

Lonely Planet – better insight, better info on sights and cities

Let’s Go/Lonely Planet – hostel info seemed to be pretty equal

I hope this helps a little. The biggest problem we had was with Let’s Go and its maps. They are terrible. Even a guy we met who was doing research for Let’s Go said that maps are not its strong suit.
