Has anyone else developed strong friendships with people they met abroad (or who were abroad) that they now rarely, if ever, see?
Some of my American friends think I’m really strange for calling my English and German pen-pals some of my best friends. The Englishman I’ve been writing to for two years now, and until very recently, when he sent me a photo, I couldn’t even remember what he looked like!
I guess maybe I’m just using this as a free therapy session. The Englishman just found out that he’s had scar tissue forming on his retina from a long-term illness, and may lose vision in at least one of his eyes. I can’t stop crying.
Anyway, sorry for the depressing topic. I really do want to hear about people’s friendships though. I doubt I’m the only one who’s formed this kind of a bond with people.
