Cuba in October
Sun, 09/19/2004 - 19:18
Has anyone been to Cuba during October? I hear that it’s rainy season then and I’m just wondering what will the weather be like? Are the rains short or do they last all day? Any info would be great. As well, any suggestions on what to see and do in Varadero? I’ll be there from Oct 9-16.
Hi Wanderstruck
I was in Varadero last year during the last week of October, as well my co-worker was there the first week in October. Even though June through November is rainy/hurricane season, last year both of us had no problems whatsoever. I had a couple days where the morning would look dark and cloudy, but by noon it was sunny and warm. If it did rain (according to my co-worker)it wouldn’t last very long until it was sunny again. Of course this year is very different than last year with all the hurricanes. If I were you, I’d talk to your travel agent and see if there was any damage done to the hotel that you’re staying at (since Cuba was hit).
There’s not a whole lot to do in the way of shopping in Cuba, but there is this fun little outdoor market right in town. You should definately try and take a day trip into Havanna. That place is really cool. For nightlife, towards the end of the peninsula at Club Amigo resort, there’s a bar called The Mambo Club. That’s the best place to go in Varadero. Cover is like 20.00USD and it includes all your alcohol.
Hopefully that helps you out a bit. Are you staying at one of the all-inclusives? If so which one? I’ve visited most of them (I’m a travel agent by the way), so I might be able to let you know if it’s a good palce or not.
My brother and his fiancee chose the Sol Palmeras hotel. They decided to get married in Cuba. It’s an all inclusive deal. They don’t really give good descriptions of what the activities the hotel has are. Also, what are good day trips. We’re already planning to visit Havana but I want to make the most of my trip and see and do all I can. Any suggestions. I’m not really one for clubbing so I’m more thinking along the lines or trips and activities such as horseback riding, day trips…
Thanks for any help.
