Hi there,

I will be in Hannover for the afternoon. Visiting the War Cemetary was the only thing we were going to do, but now we have found a few more things we want to see while there. I see there are trains to Berlin almost every hour. So if we do not know how long visiting the cemetary/museaums/parks will take, can we just walk up to train station and board the next train? I am assuming it is only special trains that would need a reservation as these ones typically do not fill up?

So yes, assuming I will not need to reserve, but just wanted to make sure. I think I am finally getting the hang of it!

thanks

It depends on which specific train you choose. Some trains require reservations, so if you choose that train you have to buy a reservation. Check the details for each train. It will either say something like “subject to compulsory reservation” or there will be a gray box with an “R” in a circle somewhere in the symbols. If you see only trains that require reservations click “all without ICE” or “only local” on the main search page to see more trains that don’t require reservations.
