Denmark?
Tue, 09/11/2012 - 09:08
I’ve heard Denmark is a beautiful country. But is it the right place for an 18 year old to go with friends? Is it affordable? Good nightlife?
Generally, Skandanavia is expensive. You might look at Estonia; a few years ago you could find half the population of Finland in Estonia, partying at substantially less cost.
Madrid, Toledo
Dublin, Dingle, Dublin
Bruges, Ardennes, Bastogne, Brussels
London
Charleville-Mézières, Reims
I lived in Copenhagen from 2006-2009, and loved it. When you say it’s a beautiful country, be aware that Denmark is not really a nature destination in the way that Norway or Switzerland would be, for example. Denmark is mostly flat, except some rolling hills in the western part called Jylland, and some nice white sand beaches at the north of Jylland.
There are a lot of clubs in Copenhagen. Costs for visitors can be high, but the impact can be minimized with good planning. For example, stay at hostels, look for the cheap buffets along Stroeget (49-69 DKR usually), pre-party with supermarket beers before going out, and use a transport discount scheme like their “klip-kard” to keep costs down.
I’ll gladly answer any more specifics you have—just post them here. When are you thinking to visit?
My friends would really like to go and we plan on going in July or August. We are hoping to start in Prague, then make our way to Germany, then Denmark is a possibility before we hit up Amsterdam. All we want to know is can a group of 18 year olds have a good time in Copenhagen? I don’t want to run out of money and/or walk into a club full of 25 year olds!
Depends. I don’t know what you mean by good time. I don’ t know how much money you’ll have, or how you’ll spend it. I can’t guarantee the ages of patrons in the club you choose. I can’t guarantee anyone’s experience anywhere. A lot has to do with attitude. Good luck.
