Die Neu Countdown 08
Wed, 11/14/2007 - 08:51
Der Countdown zum 175. Oktoberfest: 310 Tage, 20 Stunden und 9 Minuten
I am leaving from EWR with $4000 for 9 days
MunichBeerBoy
Only 306 days to go! For those of you on the fence, I would suggest an upcoming “New Year’s Resolution” of sorts… Just book a room & flight, then worry about saving money for spending at the fest later… Pledge to cut-back on your $5.00 Latte’s & $6.00 Cigarettes, then you will have your bier money when September rolls-around in 2008…
Also, it gives you a “training mission” for 08 – starting Jan. 1st… Start drinking more beer, and less coffee & soda!
MunichBeerBoy
305d 20h 32m! I will try to book a flight/room around the new year. Ill be keeping an eye on fares. Im praying the dollar makes a least a small attempt at recovery against the euro.
Less than 9 months to go!
MunichBeerBoy
263 days…..
255 Days…..
238 Days…..
Before we know it, Springtime will be in the air, and we shall break 200 days. When we get there, for those who have not been to the fest before… I would make certain you are booked-up…
MunichBeerBoy
Sun, I just booked it up….. 4th year consecutive now, I’m coming for your record, haha!!!!! PROST!!!!!
Very good sir. What dates im Munchen?
MunichBeerBoy
227 Days…
only 3 nights, b/c i’ll be in interlaken earlier in the week…. In Munchen from 9.25-9.28…. what about you?
Perfect… I’ll be there from 9/23 to 9/28… Staying at the Sheraton Four Pts. – right next to the fest grounds…
MunichBeerBoy
211 days….
Under 200…..199 days!
Only 191 days & change to go! ! !
MunichBeerBoy
amazing how fast time goes…..the last 120 days flew by. We will be drinking fine beer before we know it!
176 Days….
168 days, 19 hours and 53 minutes! belch
I am gonna feel bad for you “Ami’s” this year with the Al Qaeda tax…
$12.50 for a Mass!
yea, lucky us! In reality if you figure 1 mass = +/-(3) 12 oz beers… which go for around 4$ each in a bar here. That being said, id pay a $.17 surcharge/beer any day to drink a tasty brew at the greatest place in all zee vurld….oktoberfest.
can you suggest a cheap hostel somewhere near the fest grounds for a few nights? Or anyother place that might work out for two backpackers.
It’s getting fairly late in the year, but I would contact these two:

Hey guys! 3 friends and i just booked a couple of rooms (the last 2 double rooms actually) at 4you.. our first oktoberfest! WOOHOO! I can’t wait!
we are actually hitting the fest as part of a larger europe trip, so we’ll be flying from London down to Munich.. so far easyjet is the best option i have found, although I probably don’t even know a quarter of all the budget airlines in europe.. anyone have any other recommendations at all?
thanks guys! super excited over here!
Chir: Good to have you on-board. Please go to: www.Eurotrip.com/cheapflights and send Don this question on Euro Budget air options. He is the expert, and responds quickly.

Once you get under 90 days (we are at only 85),,, it shall be upon us before we know it!
Y E S S S S I R R R !MunichBeerBoy
79 days…
67 days….almost under 2 months
Only 66 days to go, approx. 9 weeks.. I am still getting many e-mails from Americans & Canadians about last-min accomodations. Finding a seat on a plane this year from the U.S. will be easy with our struggling economy, fuel costs, etc. However, 95% of the hotel rooms in the City Zentrum areas have been booked for a couple of months, and that includes hostels & B&B’s as well. The only exception that I can see clearly is 5-star hotels have several rooms left (BayerischerHof, Mandarin Or., Kempinski, LeMeridien, etc.),,, at a high cost. This is not an option for many Americans & Canucks, because the exchange rate will mean paying between 300 & 599 (as high as 700 USD)EUR per night! Not good… However, I am still waiting till Mid-August to see what “hidden” rooms and perhaps Sept. 1st for late cancellations, etc. A few should open up.
MunichBeerBoy
We started at 310 days….we are now at 60 and have cracked the 2 month mark!
Noch 46 Tage, 23 Stunden und 44 Minuten…
46 Days, 23 Hours and 44 Minutes remaining…
Noch 42 Tage, 23 Stunden und 54 Minuten. Six weeks means we can start polishing-up the bier steins, dusting-off the carry-on bags, and training for BEERFEST!
MunichBeerBoy
go go gadget US Dollar! Just hit a 5 month high…global economy is slowing down. Just in time for our trek!
good to hear G, but I must confess….. if the exchange made each Mass costs $25 USD, it wouldn’t stop me in any way and would still say that each sip was worth every penny….. Prost
Am 24..indian origin..working in Cairo..
Would start off on a Euro trip kicking off from october 1..from munich..This would be my first oktoberfest..
Planning on backpackin and stayin in hostels..Should visit Amsterdam and Paris before heading back to work on October 15..But not before having a hell of a time partying..
Any travel companions??
Any inputs..travel ideas..

MunichBeerBoy
Noch 36 Tage, 4 Stunden und 15 Minuten..
Man, we are only a few hours away from the 5 WEEK mark! You are getting close when you start picking your assigned seats on the plane, checking to see if you still have your pwr converter, and scrambling to lose a few pounds!
MunichBeerBoy
dollars at 1.46/1….I dont know how long I should wait before I buy…can it keep going down?
At this moment, 100 USD = 68.128 EUR.
When I purchased my travel cash in February, I only got 590 EUR for 1000 $$. Therefore, it’s a bit better, but not a HUGE pct. so. Still, almost 10% is nothing to sneeze at! That being said; I saved at least 10% by purchasing early (2002 thru 2007), as the USD had been taking a nose-dive.I would say wait until around 9/1, unless it (USD) begins to drop again. You might do about 3% better (100 USD = 71.200 EUR) or so if you wait 2 more weeks.
However, one thing I ALWAYS tell younger travelers on a budget… If you have the money in your hand (or checking acct.) – and your bills & other expenses are caught up,,, DO NOT WAIT for another expense to surface, forcing a “priority” decision. Go ahead and purchase your flight or EURO’s, which evere the case may be. I buy mine early in the year, not worrying too much about the exchange rate, because I usually scrape 800 to 1000 off my yearly bonus or tax return. I do not really miss it that way.
That being said; if I were a RICH MAN – like Guy D…. It would not matter a whole bunch!
Mas will cost an average of 8.10 EUR, with Hofbrau being the lowest at 7.80 EUR per. Some will be as high as 8.20 or 8.30.. So, you need to plan on 9.00 EUR (with tips) per Mas on avg. I would say that 36 EUR per day is do-able for 4 Mas of excellent German Marzen Bier… P R O S T ! ! !
MunichBeerBoy
Nearly a month now!
Noch 31 Tage, 21 Stunden und 4 Minuten
BTW, Maß at the Schottenhammel (Spaten) are € 7.90
