In many places around Europe the locals and Hostel staffs see travelers as backpacker and not a backpacker. I’ve seen it come to the point where someone who was probably a backpacker (just got out of college, first trip around Europe, huge backpack, few days in each city, planned itenerary, hitting primarily the tourist sites, etc) get offended when they were refered to as a backpacker in a non confrontational way and demand to be called a traveler, not a backpacker. When did this become such an issue? I know that backpacker means someone with a backpack, but it’s often seen as something more than that by the locals. I have more to say about this, but I’ll see if anyone else cares first.
