Dream Trip to Europe
Wed, 05/09/2007 - 09:24
I’m fortunate enough to be dating a girl who won what essentially amounts to a free trip to Europe for two (within a reasonable cost range). Both her and I have traveled extensively in Europe (Germany, Paris, Amsterdam, London) so we are struggling a little to decide upon a location. She has been to Italy and loved it, but I have never been. Neither of us have been to Spain or the Cote d’Azur and therefore right now these places are grouped with Italy as the leading candidates to be our destination.
Our perfect day in Europe is one spent visiting a museum or soaking up historic architecture followed by an afternoon of relaxing and soaking up European culture before heading out for dinner and drinks.
So, if money was no object and you had 10 days to spend in Europe, what would you do? It’s a great position to be in, but it’s actually a difficult decisions.

What about Greece?
I much prefer “eastern” Europe, but for this trip I’d combine northern Italy, southern France (Provence as well as Cote d’Azur) and then head for Croatia. Look for the small museums in Provence, Alpes Maritime (lots of small museums dedicated to individual impressionists plus major museums like the Fondation Maeght), Venice (there are hundreds of tiny museums and churches that each house one major work of art), Milan.
Moscow and St. Petersburg!
I really like Oldlady’s suggestion, with the added idea of heading further south on France’s coast to Collioure—there was a wonderful little Charles Rennie Mackintosh exhibit in the art museum at nearby Port Vendres (you can walk) and the atmosphere is not quite as busy as the Cote d’Azur.
