drinking water
Thu, 06/30/2005 - 23:21
With the heat in parts of europe right now I figure I will want to drink lots of water but I dont want to be blowing the budget on bottled water. Any advice on tap/fountain water quality. Mostly concerned with western europe.
thanks
I have never had any problems in Europe. I haven’t been too many places yet(28 more days and that will change), but where I have been I was informed that the water was perfectly ok to drink. If you want to feel safer, maybe you should get a hepatitis A shot before you go. I got one earlier this year for travel to the caribbean. I think that it was about $50, but it’s good for a few years.
It was fine in every country I’ve been to. If you want to be sure, just ask the locals.
thanks for the replies, I will sure save lots of money drinking tap water! I figure if I see others drinking it, its a safe bet….
That said, I’ve never had any problem drinking the water in any western european countries.
the water is perfectly fine. i filled my water bottle up at the hostels before id leave for the day. i lucked out, i never even had a headache on my trip. well one that wasnt hangover induced anyway…
The water in europe appeared to be fine. It tastes gross (sorry europeans), but otherwise you should be alright.

Looking forward to Israel, Egypt, Jordan and India in the fall!!
No problems…Rome has ice cold water running from fountains everywhere, as did Venice. Eastern Europe’s water was fine to drink. Watch out for the water in Greece though!
