Wed, 01/07/2009 - 14:37

in general things usually cost a little more over there (due to exchange rates and such), but the beer is often cheaper. here is a good beer comparison chart that gives you a rough idea what countries are more expensive…

Although, wine can be really cheap in France and Italy.

Quite simply there is a huge difference in price between various countries. Going by the British pound. Beer can be well over £5 a pint in Scandinavia but about 60p or less in some eastern European counties. Most of western Europe is somewhere in the middle.

Heineken is alot cheaper in Europe than it is here, at least in my experience (and it’s EVERYWHERE in western europe). Wine is also really cheap in France, and good. The cheap stuff there from the grocery store is better than the expensive stuff here.
Drinks in bars and clubs are ridiculously expensive. Mixed drinks will run you probably at the very least 5 euros each. More likely 7-10 euros.

As you walk around staring at all the sites, take a minute and look at the small pubs, cafes, markets and stores. Snoop around for great deals. If you party at the Irish Pubs or the American bar, you will pay top dollar. Ask students where to go?
For example, Small family run Euro .99 Cent Stores have opened in Florence, Italy. Summer of 2008, you can buy liquid soap, shampoo, boxes or bottles of good wine and large bottles of Italian Peroni Beers for only Euro .99 cents ($1.60 USD in 2008 and as of exchange rates for January 2009 only USD $1.31 each)
i know in america in the clubs you can always get guys to buy girls drinks. is it like this in europe? and it will be my friends birthday on one of the days we’re in europe, would that also hopefully get us some drinks?

I don’t know if I would take drinks from some sketchy dude in a bar I just met, European or not.

I think you would be best to follow this tip, when in Europe or back home. You never know what’s went in to the drink.

Thank you very much for this useful article and the comments. I love this site as it contains good materials.

Except that the pintprice website is often very wrong. It says many countries the average price for a pint is $0. For the US, it says $1.59. Would be a nice site if they could get it right.
On Saturday nights a pint can be had for $2.00 at Old Venice in amazing Jackson, MS
Eat the food, use the wrong verbs, and end up getting charged double.
In Latvia beer is cheaper than Vodka
In norway it cost a lot, because its a expensive country!
And cigarettes cost around 3$ one pack, its now a little bit expensive !

Spain is a really good place to go drinking. Most of the bars charge 2-3 euro for beer and wine and some places have free snacks that come with the drink. There are also places like in Granada called Chupeteria’s that serve liquor shots for 1 euro.
Paris
The prices depend on the country. You cannot compare the whole europe to us.. So it depends on the country.. In some countries in Europe beer is cheaper than juice..
Gooooood country!
