driving on the other side of the road
Sun, 10/02/2005 - 11:13
Hey All,
Just wondering, for those of you who have driven in another country that has driving on the opposite side of the road, how was it? Was it difficult to adjust? Was it scary? I am concerned..
Thanks and happy travels
You get used to it pretty quick. Also, it’s easier when there’s a good few cars on the road, so you know for sure what side of the road you are to be on.
I didn’t find driving all that difficult — once you got out on the road. Parking lots and turning out onto the street in the first place are the hardest part. Walking is as big a challenge as driving. You usually look both ways before you drive into an intersection. Walking, you tend to look only one way (the WRONG way) before you step into the street.
thanks for the replies everyone.
My biggest annoyance was when I would hit the blinker and the windshield wipers would come on. Turning from the other side always made me nervous and this never helped! But eventually you will get used to it. ~Amy
Forgot about that — and I did the same thing for a week after I got home….
I’ve also caught myself going for the passenger door rather than the drivers two or three times. A few weeks ago, after leaving a shop and scanning the headlines of a newspaper, I almost sat on my sister-in-law’s lap. It was good for a laugh, anyway.
