My friend and I will be taking a car to Europe for our trip but need some advice.

We are planning to go to Amsterdam to chill out for a few days then drive round Europe for a couple of weeks doing the tourist bit then driving down to the Mediterranean to find jobs for the summer.
My main question is, although any advice would be appreciated, has anyone done this and what did you do with the car while visiting cities ?
I know that it’s not a good idea to take your car into some cities but what should i do with it, for example, for a few days in Amsterdam.
