Hello everybody,
Well, this is my situation:
I was born in Germany and left to go to Canada with my parents when I was 5 years old. I have a german passport (i.e. am a german citizen still) and I am a permanent resident in Canada. I am 21 years old now, and I am planning on going to teach english in spain later on next year.
Now, my question is: Is it possible for germans to get dual citizenship? I would love to get a canadian citizenship because then I could return back to canada from spain without any cares or worries of not meeting my permanent resident requirements (I can only stay outside of Canada for a max of 90 days or so I think without fearing of being taken away my permanent residency and being deported back to germany or whatever), and I also would love to keep my german citizenship because I can travel freely across europe because of the advantages of the EU union.
My father is a canadian citizen now (he got his citizenship in 1995, he was a romanian but gave that up for canadian) and my mother is still a german citizen (same as me). Could I apply for dual citizenship? I heard that germans are strict on that…what a dilemma! Any help on this? I know I need to call the german embassy, but some info from you guys would be appreciated.
