Dubai
Thu, 02/03/2005 - 01:16
I just wanted to know if anyone has been to dubai? Is it fairly safe to go there? What are some of the dos/donts while there? Is it worth while to visit? Thanks
Why wouldn’t it be safe?
There has been a thread here before, please use the handy search function and that will sort you out. This section doesnt get a lot of traffic but it has been done.
Imho it’s even safer than many European countries which are also pretty safe.
Eurotripper Fireblaze (who rarely posts anymore
) used to live there and I think he’d tell you it’s safe. There are a TON of expats living there.
Event though there is is a lot of Western influence, I’d still dress modestly. My airline flew there briefly and I considered goint there myself, but I talked to an expat living in Tunisia and he suggested that the best reason to go there would be to use it as a jumping off point to get to Oman, which sounds quite intriguing with it’s desert, ancient cities, forts, souks, and seaside scenery.
you caught me sailor and you have an incredible memory.
I haven’t been to Dubai since 1989, but still have family friends there. I keep reading about Dubai in the travel section of newspapers and mag. about everyother week. It has to be one of the safest places on the planet. Bring your money, because you can go buy an Armani suit and a persian rug.
The beaches are great as well as the weather. Places to see would be the gold and spice souk. I’m sure you could still get good deals on gold.
Its a very gaudy (sp) place, with palaces, funky hotels (i’m sure you’ve seen the one that is in the shape of a sail),and shopping malls everywhere.
I still miss the place and the atmosphere; there really is no place like it. If you have questions I think i have an email address on this site, otherwise I probably won’t be on the boards for awile.
have to agree with sailor about oman, although i’ve never been there.
Heard great things about the place.
