Have pretty much settled on plans now, after cutting out some places as I didn’t have time (and didn’t want to spend less than 24 hours in the towns)
19-23 July Leighton Buzzard (staying with brother and sister in law)
23-24 July Bucharest (one night in hostel, night train to Deva at 2345)
25 July Deva (looking forward to the National Gymnastics Training Centre)
26-27 July Sighisoara
28 July Brasov
29 July Train back to Bucharest to catch night train to Belgrade
30-31 July Belgrade
01-02 Aug Novi Sad
03-04 Aug Banja Luka
05-06 Aug Mostar
07-09 Aug Sarajevo
10 Aug Neum
11-12 Aug Split
13 Aug – Back to London to meet my mother for 2.5week road trip around UK then off to east coast USA
Have worked out almost all accomodation (except for Neum) and still trying to work out budget for transportation through Serbia and Bosnia and then from Neum to Split.
So far my budget is sitting on just under AUD1000 without adding in money for food and city transport and sights. Looking at hopefully only needing another AUD500-600.
Found flights to Bucharest from Luton for AUD130 and the Split to Luton for AUD150. The rest of the trip will be trains and buses.
I know parts are a wee bit rushed, but I have cut some places out, and it’s better than not having any travel time like I would have, had I gotten a volunteering position at the Olympics.
I am leaving from Australia with $5000 for 26 days

I’m surprised no responses yet. We have some people that love this area of Europe. Wish I could help you, but you’re an experienced traveler, Elly, you’ll be fine.

Congratulations on your volunteering position at the Olympics.
Your trip does look a bit rushed in places, but like Luv I have not been to that part of Europe and I have no advice to give you. Mostar looks so beautiful.
Didnt get the position with the olympics, hence the trip

I like you’r itinerary! There are a lot of smaller towns I haven’t been to, so I won’t be much help. I love Sarajevo and I know there is one train between Belgrade and Sarajevo, but it looks like you will be making stops in between. I found Belgrade cold and not as interesting compared to Sarajevo. Mostar is enchanting. Split is very cool, but I preferred Dubrovnik. I’m pretty sure there is a bus between Neum and Split? Can anyone verify this?

I am meeting up with a work colleague in Belgrade, and I also promised my work mumma I nwould vivist for her, and I have always been a bit interested in it.
Romania and Bosnia have been my two main countries to visit, with Bulgaria, Serbia and Hungary as the ones to choose between.
Really looking forward to Deva to visit the National Gymnastics Training Centre
Hopefully going to try and start couch surfing on this trip. Have had one person in Deva offer me a place at hers!!!
