Easyjet baggage allowance help!
Sun, 03/25/2012 - 16:03
I booked a flight through easyjet without really reviewing the baggage allowance and I think I screwed myself over. I know budget airlines are brutal with baggage fees and I need some help understanding this. When I review my confirmation it says:
“There are 2 passengers, taking between them 1 hold bag, weighing in total up to 20 kg”
We both will have backpacks that will probably weigh around 20 kg, so I wish I saw that first.
So to add another bag will cost $25 (which apparently doesn’t account for any extra weight —- just another bag to check) PLUS for an extra 21 kg it is $210!!!!!!!! So in total I will be paying an extra $235.
Am I reading this right That’s the same price as my flight! It was NOT a deal at all.
Does anyone have any tips for what to do? Or am I, by some miracle, calculating this wrong??
Thanks so much for any help!!!

That sounds more like a Ryanair stunt.
With easyjet, I believe your second passenger can pre-book another bag that can weigh as much as 20kg. For each kilo over 20, you pay a penalty per kilogram over.

Check the “manage your booking” link on Easyjet.com to see if it will let your other passenger add a bag now. Looks like it’s more expensive to add it at the airport.
Yeah, the way I understand it is you get 20kg for each bag you pay for. Just pay for another bag. I like that Easyjet will allow a group to distribute their combined weight so that your bag can weigh 25 kg and your friend’s 15.
Don & augustin25 – I really hope you’re right! That would obviously make more sense. I just copy and pasted this off of my confirmation:
“1 Hold bag(s) per flight between all passengers combined
The 2 passenger(s) in this booking may check in a combined total of 1 hold bag(s) for each flight on this booking. The total hold weight must not exceed 20 kg.”
Doesn’t that sound weird???

Maybe I’ll call them and see. Paying another $25 for a bag isn’t a big deal. Hopefully that is all I’ll have to do.
THANK YOU so much!

I think what happened is you just accidentally chose 1 bag for 1 person instead of 1 bag for each person. See if the “manage your booking” on Easyjet allows you to book Bag 2 for Passenger 2. I think that could be easier/cheaper/simpler than trying to call them.
I see the option to add another hold bag but it does say +$25. That’s alright though. I emailed them and they confirmed that yes, I just needed to add another bag, not extra weight. A huge relief.
Thank you both for taking time to help.

That sounds right — $25 per passenger to take 1 bag up to 20kg. Just be glad you pre-paid. I think it’s $50 if you had waited until check-in.
Five years ago this was something only low-cost airlines would do. Now… pretty much all of them — except transatlantic which usually still allow 1 bag up to 23 kg free.
Glad you got this resolved.
