Hi, I live just outside edinburgh and I have to tell you the city is great fun. The only thing you have to worry about is the weather Frown
Inside the actual city there are many things that may interest you, walking around the city is one of the most enjoyable activities to indulge in, but stay near the royal mile(the street the castle is situated at) and princes street(the main shopping street).
If you get good weather then the edinburgh gardens are nice to relax in, as are our botanical gardens. We have a brilliant art gallery right in the center between the two parts of the Edinburgh gardens and also a nice museum on george street.
And as for boozing, then wow, you wont be dissappointed Smile
How long are you staying for?
The sea-side town of St Andrews is 1 hour away on the train and may be good for a day trip, but once again weather permitting
Personally inside edinburgh I would stick to…
-The Royal Mile, one long street many good food places, pubs, nice shops, some not nice shops, the new parliament which is… interesting…. and at the bottom the queens residence of Holyrood palace, also at the bottom of the Royal mile is a munro called Arthurs seat, basically a big hill, a good hike up it gives the best views of the city.
-Princess Street, basically full of shops, some nice bars, this is the street that the two train stations are situated on.
-Rose street, parallel to princes street, this street has the best pubs in edinburgh, a pub crawl on Rose St is unbeatable. One of my favourite places in the city.
-George St, parallel to rose street, 2 streets away from princes street, once again a really nice street, a mix of shops and pubs, pretty expensive places though.
-The grass market, just near the Royal mile, one street full of pubs and restaurants, dead nice, also another great street for a pub crawl. The Grass market is near the Cow Gate, basically an extsion of the street with more bars. This, aswell as, the royal mile are the picturesque classic ‘Old Town’ tourists like to see.
-Lothian road, Im not a great fan of the street, but it boasts some nice night clubs, but I think there are better clubs elsewhere, also quite dodgy at night.
-The Bridges, you guessed it, some more of my favourite pubs are here. Theres also a nice theatre here called the festival theatre, even if you dont get to go to see any performances it still boasts a very cosmopolitan cafe-bar.

I know this information isn’t very comprehensive, but if you have any specific questions I’d be more than happy to help you to the best of my ability.

Joe

If you love walking, maybe try one of the many nighttime haunted walking tours. They take you to old cemataries, underground chambers, and mosoleums that are supposedly haunted. They are entertaining at the least and you actually learn some history of the city.

You might want to go to nearby Roslyn as well..30 minute bus ride away and home to the Roslyn Chapel..which is quite beautiful.

Going upto the Highlands through Inverness and Loch Ness could also be fun. Its quite scenic.

Aw, for f**k sake showtimestafford!!!

Did you bother to read the initial post ? How far outside Edinburgh do you live? Staffordshire ???

Two words……. "Arthurs Seat"

It’s this big poxy hill thing you can see from the top of Princess Street that will take all of 10 minutes to walk up.

Justifies bringing those $150 hiking boots you wasted cash on that give you chessy toe blisters!

Shut up jboy you troll. If you’ve ever set foot in Edinburgh you’d know there are different routes, sure you can follow the 65+ and -15 to the top, but no matter which way you get to the top, on a clear day you can witness a 100-kilometer, 360-degree panorama of a beautiful city and surroundings. Whats that shit about me not reading the initial post, ofcourse i did you fucking complainer, you must really have a sad life if all you do is moan… She asked what they should do there, so I gave her an example of what someone who maybe hasn’t seen the sites of Edinburgh could enjoy.

So jboy, are your parents siblings?

You are a retard,

the person asked for things not too far away from Edinburgh, loves walking and you suggest St Andrews and a list of things to do right in Edinburgh… so city life!

You are a grade A Mongo if ever there was one… Arthurs Seat was right under your nose!

How far ‘just outside edinburgh’ do you live? Milton Keynes ???

If you can’t read, don’t give advice…. Extra Chromo-finger muncher!

Some nice coastal strolls 10 mins away AmandaNcle, East Lothian, Linlightow also is much closer than St Andrews and much more interesting from a history prespective

Amanda,

I think it is possible for me to come to Edinburgh and travel with you. Together we can see all that is Scotland, as I am very much fan of travelling with American girls. I think you like this…no?

These sites that Stafford tells you about will be nothing in with the comparison to the times that we can have together. We will make our own experiences and see things you haven’t seen before in your Boston.

Jesus christ jboy, you are a hypocrite. did YOU even read the question?

jboy the retard…

I come from a small town 30 minutes away. And I hardly think Linlithgow is a good example of a historical town for an outsider to see, a small palace, about 3 crappy ghost walking tours and a shitty pond they call a loch, its just a dumbed down version of edinburgh, but full of neds.
Look jboy, I’ve only tried to help her in any way I can, its people like you that waste good information boards with your negativity and down right stupidty. If you’ve got nothin better to offer than "linlithgow" then maybe you should go back to your immature yahoo chat rooms.
Im getting the feeling your not from Romania, why are you so interested in where I live? Whats the bet you live in Nidry and "fancy a scrap", you sound like an inbred, Nidry’s full of people who share their seed amongst the home. So am I right? You are from Nidry?

He is not from Romania

I think he comes from Trans-Dniester, this is the breakaway region in Moldova, yes.

The people in this region are fierce and war-like. I think he is like this kind of peoples

I myself, I come from Albania. In my country we know how to treat tourists and we want them to come, not like some of the other countries where they treat the toursist like bug.

I didn’t think Livingston was 30 mins out (unless you were running away from your pimp!)

Queensferry was quite lovely I thought. 30 mins out.

When you’re in the city, walk around The Royal Mile, check out the castle, do all the "touristy" things. You might want to take a Ghost Tour.

The best part of Edinburgh are the countless pubs and clubs. One place called Rush has 2 drinks for 1 pound until 9pm. Rose Street popular with the yuppie crowd. The Tron is really popular with backpackers. There’s tons of places. I can’t even remember most of them. Jboy enjoys Opal Lounge. It’s a good place actually.

Shopping in Edinburgh is good!
