Hi again all, I had recently posted a topic regarding sights in Dublin to see juring my trip and it was really useful. So lets try it again. I will be in Edinburgh from September 15 – 18th with my wife. Any suggestions on sights we miust see. I am going to take a full day and tavel up into the Highlands and see Loch Ness (always wanted to see it). Waht else should I be sure to see in Edinburgh.
Let me know your thoughts…..
Thanks
B

If neither of you are easily frightened, you could do a ghost tour. They run at night for about two hours – half of the time you’re above ground, learning interesting things about the city, and the other half you’re underground, being scared senseless. If you’re into the supernatural, you should definitely check it out.
FYI, I’m terrified of ghosts and, while I don’t regret doing it, it took me a couple of days to recover – it’s very eerie!
If you can get there three weeks earlier, it will be Fringe Festival – definitely worth checking out if you can.
Does this tour company have a webpage, I could check out. I did see a Jack the Ripper walking tour for London, we plan on taking that when in London.
Thanks
I’m not sure what the company was called, there’s a few who do similar ones. If you’re wandering about town you’ll see signs for them – you just turn up on the night and they take you via an office on the tour where you can pay.
There’s also one that goes through the Greyfriars Cemetery, called the “City of the Dead” tour – apparently it’s terrifying.

Here is a site worth having a look at before you go:
Many sights listed on this page:

Check out Edinburgh castle, stroll the Royal Mile, hike up Arthur’s seat, check out the free museums, Holyroodhouse. Loch Ness is definitly worth a visit. I stayed in the little town of Fort Augustus right on the Loch.
I just got back from Edinburgh and Inverness myself. Spent a week in each. Edinburgh is beautiful-you could hike up Arthur’s Seat. Definatley see Calton Hill in new town. It is also known as monument hill because of well, all the monuments. It is a 360 view of the city and wonderful on a nice afternoon. Go to Greyfriars Kirk, Flodden Wall runs through the graveyard (first city wall). Greyfriars is close to the Royal Mile. Don’t miss Greyfriar’s Bobby out front. Look the story up, very sad.
If you are going to Loch Ness you can always stay in Inverness, the city in the highlands. If you do-be warned that everything closes at 5. Except for the pubs and some restaurants. Inverness is small and eveyone in the city knows each other. Loch Ness is 20 minutes by bus from Inverness and Urquhart Castle is a nice place to stop and see. You do have to pay to see it but I think it is worth it. You can get a three day Scotland pass and see a few of the sites for a slightly discounted price. It includes Urquhart and Edinburgh castle. It also includes Stirling castle but that is an hour from Edinburgh by train-nice half day trip. You might not want to take the time to see that since you won’t be there long.
Have to good trip!
Yes, the City Of The Dead walking tour is great! My sister and I did that one having just gotten off the bus, exhausted. It certainly gave us a second wind. Definitely don’t miss Edinburgh Castle! Best thing, hop on one of those red, double decker busses and familiarize yourself, then you’ll know what you want to do.
P.S. STAY AWAY FROM EDINBURGH DUNGEON!!! TOTAL RIPOFF!!!
I like the train station because you can leave the damn place from there.
The airport’s good for that too mind.
lol very true
