I think you can get an open return on a RTW ticket. But you’ll have to look into what the terms are. If you plan your travel carefully, you can get a heck of a lot of travel out of it. I don’t know much about RTW tickets either, but I think I read that there’s a Yahoo group about them.

I’m no expert on RTW tickets either, but I’m sure I’ve seen them mention both on Star Alliance and on One World websites. Why don’t you call Air Canada reservations and ask them? Most likely the first agent you talk to won’t be well versed in that matter, so ask to speak with a sup, or to connect you to whatever person will be able to give you the details.

One-ways will likely be cheapest and best. www.bookingbuddy.com one-way search is good.

Canadian Affair has Air Transat on Edmonton-Gatwick $512 CAD 19June
I see Zoom on Calgary-Paris $546 CAD 18July

Qatar Airways has Paris to Singapore $768 USD 22July

You should also check one-way and multi-city pricing with student agencies such as www.travelcuts.ca and www.statravel.com

Also for multi-city price shopping:
www.kayak.com/flight…
www.mobissimo.com/se…
www.sidestep.com/
Try with and without the final SIN-YEG flight in 2009—it might not even price out that far in advance.
