Eurail; distance & best time
Sat, 08/28/2010 - 10:33
I’m working on my first Europe trip.
Would like to visit Paris, Pisa, Rome, Venice, Bern, Luxembourg back to Paris using Eurail.
Based on Eurotrip planner suggestion its gonna be 3 Country France/Italy/Switzerland 6 Day 1st Class Adult select pass.
My question is what about Luxembourg? How can i enter 4 country with only 3 country pass?
Also I need to know how long it takes from:
Paris – Pisa
Pisa – Rome
Rome – Venice
Venice – Bern
Bern – Luxembourg
Luxembour – Paris.
Is there any direct train from cities above or i need to change trains in another city?
If its long trip, which destination is better for day trip or night trip (considering scenic and safety)?
I know its a lot of question, but i’m traveling solo that’s why i wanna be well prepared
.
Thanks in advance.
I am leaving from Jakarta with $1500 for 10 days

You can use your pass to/from the last/first stop on the French side of the border, then purchase point-to-point tickets in/out of Luxembourg.
Bahn.de has rail schedules for nearly every train in Europe.
For example, looks like Bern-Luxembourg 11:39 a.m. departure goes via Basel, Strasbourg, Metz with last stop before Luxembourg at Thionville, France. You could purchase Thionville to Lux. before boarding in Bern with your pass, or hop off at Thionville and purchase a ticket to Luxembourg there. Looks like a short 23 minute Regional Express train there.
Thanks so much for your info Don, its really helpful

Use the German national rail company website for train schedules anywhere in Europe: http://reiseauskunft…

Oops — I forgot. If you click on the train you want on the website, it will show you a fair amount of information about it , like the connections, train numbers and which, if any, segments require a reservation. Sometimes it also shows the border crossing town. If it doesn’t, click on “show intermediate stops” to see everywhere the train stops and the border crossing.
