Hi All,
My girlfriend and I will be travelling through Europe for a month next year (New Years 2008/2009). Here’s my dilema: By the time we leave, I will be 26 years old, and she will be 25. I will be too old to purchase a 2nd class Eurail pass, while she will still be young enough to purchase a 2nd class Eurail Pass (and save a few hundred dollars in the process). Here’s my questions:
1. If I purchase a first class Eurail pass, will I still be able to travel in second class with my girlfriend? Or am I required to stay in 1st class?
2. Does the first or seond class Eurail pass affect what couche’s you get? 5 years ago I took a couchet from Paris to Berlin, and I had to pay about 20 Euros to reserve it even with my Eurail pass. WIll I be expected to pay more for a better couche with my 1st class ticket, or are all couchets the same?

Thanks,
Scott

You can travel in 2nd class on a 1st class pass.  If you’re going to be traveling together all of the time, you could also look at 2 1st                                    class saver passes.

You can buy 2nd class couchette (or other 2nd class accomodation, like a T3 compartment on some trains)reservations with a 1st class pass.
The cost will be the same as with a 2nd class pass.  Some sleeping accomodations are 1st class only, but those are the most expensive ones.

OldLady,
Thanks so much for your response. This makes planning our trip a litle easier.

Cheers,
Scott
