The tournament has officially kicked off and should be a good one. Sucks that I only have basic cable and can’t watch some of the games. Not to mention that I’m working during most games. Who’s watching and who’s going to bring it home?

My pick is the mighty Oranje. Most people seem to be leaning towards Germany or Spain. Spain won’t win. That’s all I have to say.

Don’t know anything about these but:

Eat the food, use the wrong verbs, and end up getting charged double.

LIke you i will miss much of it through working, sucks eh!? The Dutch are dark horses if they can find form. The Spanish have the talent and flair but lack mentality. The Germans will be in the latter stages and could win it. I think the Italians will win it. They seem to have the right combination of defense, battling midfield and dangerous strikers. I would love to see another upset Greek style though. Staying with my Croatian trip theme…….hmmm you never know!

Romania,

Croatia looked pish and really rattled against the mighty austria… no danger!

Spanish are completely spineless… major underacheivers!

Hope that greasy wee Portugese gypsy Ronaldo gets his knew fucked up
or something equally as nasty…. he looks like a transgendered operation gone
wrong!

Germany shocked and amazed. Lose 2-1 to Croatia but really wasn’t that close.

Damn-first time in forever I was actually pulling for the Teutonic Tribes. My girls, who both play soccer in Germany for their school, will be crushed.

I think 1990 will be hard to surpass. Voeller, Mattheus, Klinsmen-that was a team and oh how I loathed them-but the week long victory celebrations were nuts.

This is turning into a great tournament. Espania’s last minute game made the pending Russia v Sweden game count and tomorrow I expect a good game between Czech Republic and Turkey. A stat I read today said CR was something like 10-1-3 alltime vs Turkey. Odds are in their favor.

I still maintain that Nederland will be champs!

I agree that NED looks great. However, I have seen teams get rolling in the early rounds in this crazy sport, only to fall flat and not score a goal in the Semi-Finals, etc. Germany??? I watched that entire game the other day, and I cannot figure-out if Croatia is that good, or Germany played without an ounce of energy.. I guess we’ll find out on Monday. NEDERLAND, PORTUGAL, CROATIA, & RUSSIA played well in their first couple of games. Greece, not so much. Has anyone seen the floppers play yet? Italy, that is??? Also, I will likely watch the Turkey vs. Czech game today & Germany vs. Aut tomorrow. Have not seen Turkey yet. They are usually pretty decent. Gernerally, one would rather be lucky than good any day of the week. The Spaniards got a gift from Sweden yesterday (late turnover led to goal) – Big Time!!!

It’s hard to pick, but if I had to pick a Final Four:

NETHERLANDS DEUTSCHLAND SPAIN PORTUGAL

That Czech/Turkey match was one for the ages!!!

I’m pulling for Germany, but other than against Poland, they haven’t really looked dominant yet. Hopefully Low benches Gomez, the kid looks like a fish out of water. Missing TWICE on the Klose pass early in the game vs Austria was the straw that broke the camel’s back. He was great in the Bundesliga this year, but hey, the success doesn’t always translate. Look at Podolski… he’s basically been marginalised on Bayern Munich the last couple seasons but he has 3/4 of the German goals so far in Euro 08. I say sack Gomez, move Poldi up, and let Schweinsteiger start middie. If they end up tying Portugal, give Gomez a chance on penalties and maybe he’ll regain his form, but he should have to earn his way back into the lineup. Just my $0.02, of course Wink
