In Europe for two weeks - what not to miss?
Tue, 03/02/2010 - 17:31
My friend and I are thinking about going backpacking for two weeks the summer after high school graduation. We definately want to go to Paris, Rome, and Amsterdam. What are some of the best places to go?
Also, what do you think is a good amount of time to spend in each city, keeping in mind that we want to see as many cities as possible without losing the experience of getting to know each city?
I am traveling for 16 days
Rome, Florence, Munich, Paris, Brussels, Bruges, Amsterdam
Rome, Florence, Munich, Paris, Brussels, Bruges, Amsterdam
For 2 weeks, I wouldn’t add another country. Maybe fly into Amsterdam, train to Paris, then perhaps 1-2 stops on the way to Rome, fly out of Rome.
Amsterdam can be done in 2-3 days, max. (Though I am biased because I don’t really like Amsterdam)
4 is ideal in Rome, there’s so much to do and see
Maybe something like:
Amsterdam 2-3
Paris 4
French Riviera 2-3
Florence 2-3
Rome 4
Even that may be a bit rushed due to travel times.
I haven’t really been to enough places in Europe to offer some extensive advice, but I have traveled in Italy and I really would recommend at least stops in Rome and Florence.
Madrid, Barcelona, Athens, Santorini, Rome, Sorrento, Florence, Cinque Terre, Nice, Lyon, Paris, Zagreb, Grabovac (Plitvice), Split, Dubrovnik, London
The first trip I took was a whirl wind trip for 12 nights, we had no idea if we would ever make it back to europe so we tried to see as much as possible. Here was our trip
London 2 nights
Brussels 1 nights
Amsterdam 2 nights
over night train
Interlaken Switzerland 2 nights
Florence 1 night
Rome 3 nights
It was a ton of moving around, but we saw a ton of things, met cool people along the way. If you might only have one chance to go then i recommend suckin it up and seeing as much as possible. Just make sure you and your travel companions have energy, can still get up early after drinking all night and are looking to have the time of your life’s.
