EuroRailways.com - any reviews?
Sun, 11/11/2007 - 21:39
[=“4”][=“trebuchet ms”]Hello all..
I was wondering if anyone here has ever used www.eurorailways.com in the past. For some reason, it won’t let me get any further than typing in my name/address, then it takes me back to the login page (which never works?). I also can’t find any user reviews for it. I checked w/ BBB.org, and they had several complaints (all but 1 had been resolved).
Has anyone ever bought European rail tickets from them? Their site is sooo much cheaper than RailEurope.com, Thalys.com, etc. We are talking by about $300. I am going from Amsterdam to Paris (round-trip) on 11/16/07 with my boyfriend (we are both youths) and two other friends. www.eurorailways.com quotes the tickets about $340 (for the 2 of us), all the other sites are $650+. Would it be any cheaper to buy them directly @ Amsterdam Centraal Station when we get there? Or would it be the same price?
Thanks!! Just looking for feedback on www.eurorailways.com

Their prices are $10 to $12 lower than the standard price for railpasses, but they charge a $12 “handling fee.” Everything I checked was basically the same price as every other site. Lower prices for a trip from Paris to Amsterdam may be because they’re selling basic tickets which aren’t honored on the Thalys trains — which means making 2 or 3 connections.
I believe that the $12 is only for totals under $300. Our total would be $345 including shipping. I hadn’t found any reviews for this site from travelers, so I didn’t know if it was just a big rip-off. Know what I mean? Maybe I will try tomorrow at the library or somewhere, i.e. a computer not my own (in case it is just my computer giving me troubles with accessing the site). Have you ever bought anything from there?
Thanks,
Kara
P.S. Thank you for the fast reply
Maybe you were looking @ something different than I was when you said the prices seem to be the same on other sites. I wasn’t looking at passes, just the tickets. I did not check the prices of the Eurorail passes, so I don’t know about those in comparison with other ones. If you compare the prices from Raileurope.com and Eurorailways.com, round trip from Amsterdam to Paris and back, then there is a $300 difference in the cost. Everywhere else besides Eurorailways.com has a $600+ pricetag for 2 youth tickets on the Thalys between Amsterdam and Paris (round-trip). That is why I was wanting to get from Eurorailways.com
I noticed some special fees on regular tickets, too. The tickets will probably still be cheaper if you buy them at the train station in Europe. I checked Berlin to Munich which was $224 plus a $40 reservation charge on eurorailways, $153 on www.railpass.com and as low as 29 euros if you bought directly from the German railsite: bahn.de
