Timeline – mid Nov to late Dec 2013

Places I want to go:

London
Paris
Germany – Berlin mainly (any other suggestions?)
Ireland – Dublin (any other suggestions?)
Amsterdam
Couple of extra places that are time/location sensible – Prague, Brugges maybe?

Would love to hear advice on:
Budget
Order in which to do the cities
Favourite places
When to book flights/accomodation etc etc.

All I know is I will be going from Mid Nov til around Christmas end of 2013 and I want to hit London (lots of people to visit, have accommodation), Ireland (Dublin and a few other places), Paris (have accommodation), Germany (mostly Berlin but perhaps some other places), Amsterdam (been there before, love it), and then fly back to Brisbane. Thinking of adding in a few extra places close by, was thinking Belgium and/or Prague for example.

I’d start by finding out which airports have the best service to and from Brisbane, and plan to start near one of them and finish near another.

For Ireland, Dublin is nice, but the best scenery is on the west coast, so I would take a bus to somewhere like Dingle (excellent traditional music and scenery and food).

Then I would go to London. Amsterdam would be next as it is close to London. From Amsterdam there is good train service to Brugges or Ghent. We liked Brugges, but everyone does, and Ghent is nice and less crowded.

Then I would take a train to Paris.

You could then train to Berlin. Many towns have Christmas fairs from late November until just before the holiday. You could find a town in Germany that has a good fair and visit that. Nurmberg is the most famous, I think, but they are everywhere, and I’ve never met anyone who had attended one and expressed disappointment. You might also consider Munich, which has a lot of history, top museums, and would possibly be a good place to leave from for home.

Enjoy your trip. We often go to Europe in the Winter, and found the climate almost temperate.
