Hi everyone,

Anyone have some recommendations on where to go shopping for nice (not super expensive so under $150 US for an item) clothes and shoes for women in their late 20’s early 30’s. We thought we would buy nice fitting casual and work clothes/shoes that would be difficult to find in the US malls and dept stores.

What are your favorite stores in paris, venice, florence, rome (or france and italy in general)?

Also we wanted to get something (clothes? gifts?) for the guys in our lives…any favorite places to shop for the guys??

Zara
Le Bon Marche
Galeries Lafayette
Agnes B
Comptoir des Cotonniers
Diesel (both good for men too)

These are also my fave stores in the UK, which might be in France or Italy as well (though I know some are not):
Topshop
Oasis
Warehouse
Mango (in Spain too)
Accessorize

Topshop has stores in other countries too (at least in Spain there’s one right in Puerta del Sol)so keep an eye out for it.

Mango is in tons of countries, France and Italy included.

Zara has locations in Paris, Rome and Florence.

I’ll also add H & M to the list…a little bit cheaper quality and prices, but you can still find some nice clothes there…

Massimo Dutti is similar to Banana Republic wih a European flair. I know there’s one in Florence on Via Roma. http://www.massimodu…

Zara and Mango – both Spanish stores all over Europe. (Zara is in NYC too).

However, if you buy them in Spain – much much much cheaper!

Naf Naf
Morgan de Toi
Etam
Kookai
Orsay, Xanaka (Not my fave, kinda like wet-seal in the States)

Spain:
Bershka, Corte Ingles

UK:
Next
(the best thing about being stuck in Gatwick North Terminal waiting for a flight.)

M&S – kidding! Wink

Word on Mango and Zara!

In Italy there are several discount malls and factory outlets offering designer and luxury items economically (although considering the dollar’s dismal exchange rate, not as good value as once).

McArthur Glen: Castel Romano, outside Rome; and Serraville, betwen Genoa and Milan, http://www.mcarthurg…

Foxtown: North of Milan just over the Swiss border, Mendrisio, http://www.foxtown.c…

The Mall: Outside Florence, http://www.outlet-fi…

hi suedela
don’t know if you are in the US….but you said you wished for a Zara closer than NYC…if you are in Southern California or near it…they opened a Zara store at South Coast Plaza which is in Orange County, about 45 minutes south of Los Angeles

I do have to comment that the Zara stores in the US are the worst of the bunch – been to the ones in NYC and also Washington DC and, compared to the ones in Spain, they’re kind of crap for selection and prices. Still, I guess it’s better than nothing. Zara in Paris is pretty good, Zara in London is alright…still the best in its native land. Same goes for Mango.

Sisley in Italy, but it has been about a year and a half since I have visited. I think there is one in Salzberg too.
