Ferry to Norway
Wed, 01/30/2008 - 23:25
Um.. whats the best way to get to norway from say Germany?
There aren’t any direct ferries between Germany and Norway. If you go via Copenhagen, there is a nightly ferry that departs about 5pm and arrives Oslo next morning around 9am. If you go through western Denmark, there are ferries from Hanstholm and Hirtshals to Kristiansand and Stavanger. Ferries to Kristiansand are fastest, taking 2-4 hours in summer. Ferry to Stavanger is overnight.
http://www.directferries.com/ shows a ferry between Kiel Germany and Oslo, but it must be pretty indirect, given the time. Don’s options look a lot better.
This is pasted from their site:
While we’re here…. Don, do you know anything about the ferry from say Stockholm to Helsinki or Turku. Given the difference in flight costs it seems like a good idea to fly to Stockholm and ferry from there……
I stand corrected on the Kiel-Oslo ferry. I’m not surprised, though, with prices in Germany extremely very much cheaper than prices on just about everything in Norway. It’s probably a booze cruise/duty-free attraction, so maybe it will do well.
OL, I’m not up-to-date on the crossings from Stockholm, other than to say I see them passing every September when I’m in the archipeligo. My Swedish friends tell me there are 2 competing lines running daily, and if I recall, seems like one passes by about half an hour after the other. Stena and Viking might be the line names—but that’s all I know.
Crosson, be aware that “best” might be flight—if you’re limited on time. See www.norwegian.no and www.whichbudget.com
What have you been smoking Don, you can’t get a ferry from Stocholm to Norway. The Keil to Oslo ferry is very popular with German bobils tourists, you must have noticed the thousands of German bobils on the road every summer, most of them come via that ferry.
Heh, I was referring to the bottom of oldlady’s question about ferries between Stockholm and Helsinki.
Loads of tyskebobilturister crossed over to Kristiansand and came up through southern Norway. I didn’t see the Kiel-ister so much since I lived in Stavanger. I don’t blame them, though—it’s beautiful in sommertid—Caravan Heaven.
Ah well I’ve been on the Stockholm to Helsinki ferry, if you’re young it’s a lot of fun, a real booze trip with hundreds of drunken swedish and finnish teenagers and 20 somethings, if you’re older or have children I suggest you get a cabin.
