Ok…So my initial plan is to fly out around Aug 1. I was thinking of flying in and out of Paris and making a kind of circle…I am also thinking of getting the 3 month  Eurail pass…I am still researching some of the best ways to get to the destinations I want to go so If you see a better route, or think it may be good to include something else let me know.

Fly from Boston to Paris (1 day)
Paris (4 days)
Brussels (2 days)
Brugge (day trip on the way to Amsterdam)
Amsterdam (3 days)
Interlaken (2 days)
Salzberg (2 days)
Vienna (4 days, I am visiting with a friend in Vienna)
Budapest (4 days)
Prague (4 days)
Berlin (3 days)
I am trying to plan on being in Munich for Oktoberfest…If I can’t get a hostel reservation ahead of time, I will visit Munich after Berlin…If I get a Hostel reservation I will head to Italy from Berlin…I think
Venice (2 days)
Florence (3 days)
Rome (4 days)
Naples (3 days)
At this point I have about a week before I need to be in Munich if I got set up…I am still unsure if I want to maybe visit Sicily and Cinque Terra or take a trip over to Athens (I think by doing Athens I may be trying to rush it so I mayopt for more Italy)
Munich (4 or 5 days)
Nice (2 days)
Barcelona (3 days)
Valencia (2 days)
Granada (3 days)
Madrid (4 days with a day trip to Toledo)
Lisbon (3 days)

That is 71 days…I am planning on flying back to the states on 10/26 (I am flexible) so that gives me 86 actual days in Europe…I would like to add at least another destination and I also need to leave some days open for traveling. I dont have a problem taking a cheap flight from my last destination back to Paris for my flight.

Looks pretty good to me. I am doing about 65 days this summer, and I am hitting a lot of the same places you are. You may want to consider Scandinavia or Greece, you have a lot of time to work with. In Spain I would try to make it to San Sebastian in the north and Granada and/or Seville in the south. Lagos is said to be a great city in Portugal. You may also want to Consider Gimmelwald in Switzerland, very close to Interlake, it is a small mountain village, many veteran travellers have told me they think it is the most beautiful place they have ever seen. You also may want to look at Cinque Terre in Italy, very picturesque fishing villages on northwest coast. If you are into Medieval towns, you may want to add more time in Burges and take a trip down from Prague to Cesky Krumlov.

I know I threw a lot at you, and if you have any other questions or want more information on any of these cities, I would suggest trying a search at the bottom of the page, there is real wealth of knowledge here and much has been discussed in-depth.

Overall looks very nice for a first time itinerary, it took me a lot of time to get setteled on mine. You should have an awsome time, I wish I had enough money to go for that long.

Cheers!

Kenneth

I hope you talk to people who have been to the nothingness that is Brussels……….maybe you might want to stop off  for 20 minutes to see the Grande Place and the Mannekin Pis but there is nothing there.  Better to add those days elsewhere.  I’d convert them to staying in Brugge if it were me.  Happy Travels and hope you don’t waste your time in Brussels.

I am leaving from Palo Alto with $123 for 22 days
London, Paris, Tours, Caen, La Rochelle, Annecy, Genoa, Venice, Florence, Rome

Thanks for the tip on Brussels…I looked at Brugge at bit more in depth…Maybe I can stay in Brugge instead of Brussels and just make Brussels a day trip out of Brugge…It sounds like it is only a 45 minute train ride.

I also looked at the places you mentioned K3NN3TH Lagos sounds fun and may easily work into my schedule…I have been considering San Sebastien as well.

Gimmelwald sounds like a very laxed place and may fit in nicely after hitting Interlaken.

Anyone know if it is worthwhile to try and work in any of the cities in Poland?

I can still see me and my mate looking for the Mannekin Pis in Brussels, yep have to agree, stay in Brugges and add Brussels as a day trip,
Don’t start adding too many more days to your trip otherwise you will end up rushing through Europe, yes Poland is brilliant, but maybe leave that for another trip, cause trust me, once you make this journey you will never stop travelling.
Also make sure you allow yourself a free day every 10-12 days just to unwind and catch your breath

Maybe you’re overplanning.  If you were my friend i’d tell you to straight up avoid Brussels completely ie no day trip there.  If you happen to pass through it, you could hop off for a 20 minute look at very unimpressive stuff, but other than that DON’T GO.  Chocolate, sights, living, coolness,…..these things are much better and cheaper in Brugge.  Handmade fancy chocolate costs half the price in Brugge.  The day trip i can recommend from Brugge is to Flanders Fields.  I went with a small company……Daytours?  The guide is Nathan, a WWI history buff who will give you an awesome day trip.

I was going to reserve hostels in the first couple spots on my trip, that way I knew I had a place to sleep while I get used to life on the road. One thing I have started to do is write down a list of stuff I want to see at each stop…That way I know what I want to do when I get there. Ha! That sounds like more planning I guess…I am really very flexible though…I look into the train routes and stuff now to see how easy it will be to get from place to place.
