First Euro trip itinerary. Please help
Fri, 05/11/2012 - 13:56
Hi!
I have a rough itinerary set and need help with the same.
24/6-Mumbai-Amsterdam
25/6-29/6->Amsterdam
29/6-> Amsterdam to Paris
29/6-1/7->Paris
1/7-> Paris to south of France (still have to decide the city)
1/7-3/7-> South of France
3/7->South of France to Venice
3/7-5/7->Venice
5/7-> Venice to Rome
5/7- 7/7-> Rome
7/7-> Rome to Barcelona
7/7-10/7- Barcelona
We are planning to travel by low budget flights to the different locations to save time.
Do you think it’s a feasible plan?
Please help and suggest.
Thank you.
I am leaving from Mumbai with $3000 for 16 days
Amsterdam, Paris, Nice, Venice, Rome, Barcelona

Flying will not save time for most of this. Paris to Amsterdam and Venice to Rome will be faster on the train. Paris to Nice or elsewhere in the south of France will take nearly as long to fly as it does on the train. You’ll have your choice of several train times so you can pick one that’s convenient. You may not find a cheap flight at a time that doesn’t kill a whole day. You can also take an overnight train and avoid using any sight-seeing time to get to Southern France. Any flight takes nearly 5 hours when you figure time to get to/from airports (public transit to the airport usually runs from the train station) 2 hour advance check-in and flight time. Further, I think you will find the “hurry up and wait” nature of flying to be pretty stressful.
I would fly from Rome to Barcelona and, depending on where you decide to stay, from the South of France to Venice. I’d take the train for the rest. A 3 or 4 country select eurail pass may save money for this itinerary.
