first time to europe
Wed, 04/30/2008 - 02:46
hello everyone i’m from manila and i’m planning to got to europe this june i’m planning to go backpacking with my fiance my plan is to go to austria then italy, paris and amsterdam. I’m new to travelling in europe and i’m confused with eurorail and stuff. I just want to visit historical places go to the cheapest accomodations i can get. any tips on this guys and how much do you thinnk should be my budget when i get there? i’m planning to do all this in 3 weeks is this possible?

Read the stickies at the top of the forum. Have you looked at an atlas?
Decide where you want to fly into. From Manila, I am not sure which city would be best, but you could make a loop from Paris or Amsterdam for sure.
It is generally thought that backpacking runs between $40-$75 per day.
I am in a similar boat. I have close to three weeks to travel and have never been over there. I’ll be by myself however.
What I did was order two national geographic maps for my wall, and I plan to use stick pins and string. I’d hate to go for three weeks and come back to realize I missed something amazing. I am concentrating on Germany, and possibly Austria, Czech Republic or France.
For Eurorail, there are a ton of sites that will help you. There is a link at the top of this site that will take you to a rail planner. One thing I have picked up is to look for night trains for trips over 7 hours.
