Hi,
Iam attending a conference in Zurich from June 26-29, 2007 and would like to use this opportunity to see Europe. I can probably get away with 2-3 weeks of vacation time. Iam needed in Zurich on one of those 4 days so I am open to nearby places. I have a temporary itinerary in place but no idea of places to visit. I would appreciate some help.

June 24 – arrive in Zurich
June 25 - visit geneva via interlaken
June 26 – needed in Zurich
June 27 - zurich excursion
June 28 - leave for Salzburg day train
June 29 - night train to vienna
June 30 - see Vienna night train to Munich
July 1 – munich
July 2 - take night train or fly to frankfurt
July 3 – day in frankfurt night train to Amsterdam
July 4 – Amsterdam night train to Paris
July 5 - night train to paris
July 6 - Paris museum visit
July 7 -&nbsparis
July 8 - night train to Zurich
July 10 – Leave Zurich for India

Would like to fit in Italy and Spain time&nbspermitting. Iam open to stay in cheap but clean Hostels and I will be travelling alone. Also what would be the expense Iam looking at not including airfare?

comments welcome.

cheers,
prakash

Looks like you’ve done a good job with your itinerary, and it should work.  However, you’ve got a pretty exhausting itinerary.  I think you’d enjoy it more if you cut at least one city.

7 night trains? I feel exhausted just thinking about it!

Hi,
Why are night trains exhaustive. Wouldn’t I get a sleeper berth or would I have to sit  the whole time. As for the itinerary, if I have to drop a city, it will have to be Frankfurt. Also, I may want to be in Prague on the 17th and 18th of July. That would give me more time. Can I then include Italy or spain to my itinerary. Again what should be my budget per day?

cheers,
prakash

For most people, it’s kinda hard to sleep on a train, even if you have a bunk Smile

I am traveling for 51 days
Bath, Haltwhistle, London, Füssen, Freiburg, Stuttgart, Speyer, Nördlingen, Salzburg, Hallstatt, Salzburg, Rome, Ostia Antica, Athens, Delphi, Athens

I don’t think the night trains will be a huge problem for you if you really want to do it, but it seems like you aren’t really spending any time there! Only spending a day in a city in Europe won’t really show you much, and I think you will leave feeling like you spent your whole trip on a train and no time actually doing things. If it were my trip, I’d either add a little more time or cut out some cities so you could actually get to know a place before you left.
