Fishing Pole
Wed, 01/04/2006 - 07:04
What are the rules in europe about fishing? Do you need a liscense in most countries? I dont see anywhere where anyone says anything about packing one. What about a filet knife? I assume that would want to stay in ones’ pack when around others.

I have never been to Europe but a good friend of mine has. He was at a little stream with some friends and they saw hundreds of fish. They decided to catch them with their hands. To make a long story short they spent a couple days in jail for not having a fishing liscence. So you may want to do some more research. Check with the US Embassies in the countries you plan on visiting. Also remember you can not carry a knife on a plane. They may let you take it but you will have to check your bag. It may be easier to buy one when you get there. Hope this helps!
Where are you going and how often do you plan on fishing? Maybe you’ll be able to rent a pole for the day should you have the urge to fish. If you are sticking to the beaten path and mostly hitting large cities, then I doubt you will have enough opportunity to justify carrying around a pole with you. Remember that everyone almost always overpacks (especially on a first trip) and you don’t want to drag along the extra weight if its not truly needed.
I can see where most would overpack, but im not looking to backpack and camp. I figure fishing may save me some money on food. I actually dont fish but if im in the wilderness and hungary for a couple days, im sure i would change my mind
tony
