Flight from Tel-Aviv to Budapest/Vienna/somewhere clost
Mon, 05/03/2010 - 17:06
Hi All,
My friend and I are trying to get from Tel-Aviv (after our birthright trip) to Budapest or Vienna on June 16th. I am having trouble finding the best/cheapest way to accomplish this. Does anyone have any suggestions on what airlines to look at? I have been using air baltic to look at our options, but that requires a stop in Riga, Latvia. We are not necessarily opposed to getting to our destination by spending a night in a different city. If anyone has any advice on this I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

I am leaving from Tel Aviv with $2500 for 18 days

Hopefully this will get better answers here.
Air Baltic has some good sales right now — and the Baltic States are an excellent visit for those interested in the Holocaust. Riga is one of my favorite cities.
great thanks for your help! I have looked at their website and right now the cheapest one way ticket to riga from tel aviv on the date I am traveling (june 16) is 246 EUR including taxes and fees. Does this seem high to you? It seems weird because a flight to vienna which includes a stop over in riga is cheaper than that.
If I do manage to make it to Riga, do you know of the best places to look for flights from riga to budapest/vienna?
Thanks again!

I checked Skyscanner and Whichbudget. El Al and Malev serve TLV-BUD. Air Baltic serves Vienna.
Be sure to try the links and strategies in our new user thread, top of this (cheap flights) forum.
Consider doing open-jaw (aka “multi-city”) arriving to one and return from the other. Kayak, Cfares, and Momondo are very good for multi-city flight searches.
Thanks I will check those tips out.
Also, looks like we will be skipping out on Budapest and going straight to Vienna. Trying to be in Vienna by the 17th – hopefully for cheap!
Also, we are not returning to Tel-Aviv but most likely going back to America. Thanks for your help.

The sites mentioned will also check one-way prices for you. Quick check for you: Cheapest I see is $244 with Aegean Air and a nice long layover in Athens (7.5 hours), or Air Baltic with a 2 hr. layover in Riga. Air Berlin has $322 with 11 hr. layover in Berlin if that strikes your fancy. Maybe check out EuropebyAir.com too — not sure if they’ve got TLV yet in their route system or not.
Thanks Don – with that long layover in athens, is that enough time to check out some of the sites in the city? I would love to spend some time in Riga, and in a perfect world I would arrive in Riga on the 16th and leave the 17th. Not sure if thats possible though…

Why don’t you go to AirBaltic.com and price it out as 2 one-way tickets?
I did that and found something odd (at least to me):
A flight from Tel Aviv to Vienna on 6/16 is 181.42, which includes a 2 hr layover in Riga.
A flight from Tel Aviv to Riga on 6/16 is 246.30
A flight from Riga to Vienna on 6/17 is 127.37
Does this seem right to you? To me, this means that I could (in theory) take the flight from Tel Aviv to Vienna, and then not get on the connecting fight to Vienna. I would then wait until the next day to take the flight from Riga to Vienna. It would save me about 60 Euros. Is this possible?
