Kerala Backwaters were formed by the action of waves and shore currents creating low barrier islands. All these low barrier islands results across the mouths of the many rivers flowing down from the Western Ghats range.
Kerala Backwaters have got the most spectacular sight of its own. The state of Kerala has over 900 km of interconnected waterways. It is in itself a big achievement. Added to this there are rivers, lakes and inlets that make up the Kerala Backwaters. There is a creation of landscape that makes the local more elegant. There is also of wonderful corporation made by National Waterway No. 3. it is a watery that extends from Kollam to Kottapuram. This particular range covers a distance of 205 km and runs almost parallel to the coast line of southern Kerala. Under this provision National Waterway No. 3 facilitates both cargo movement and backwater tourism. There is no doubt that whoever the visitor comes to visit Kerala Backwaters will never forget the huge and spectacular sight of the sea. The backwaters are unique addition of beauty and natural craft to of the ecosystem.
