FunFare and Megabus London-Liverpool
Tue, 06/15/2010 - 19:40
Hi there,
I just stumbled across these 2 options. We need to go from London to Liverpool and back again.
this will be our only travel in the UK. I tried looking at Britrail but for some reason I can’t find the cost of the train.
The train would be much easier (and takes only 2 hours), but if it’s really expensive I will try FunFare.
Only question is: It seems that you have to live in the UK to receive that fare? Or did I read it wrong?
Also, if the funfare is only posted a few weeks before the trip, how will I know it can be sent to Canada in time? Although I suppose you can probably print off the ticket.
Thanks!
I am leaving from Canada with $5000 for 38 days

I think usually you can print off the tickets or pick them up from a self-service kiosk in the station. Megabus is SUPER cheap, I am using them alot in my trip this fall because of it. However, National Express funfares usually have a wider range of times available than Megabus does. The trains in Britain, unless you catch it on an advance fare at certain times/days, is RIDICULOUSLY expensive. Probably the most expensive in Europe. But they are what you want if you need to leave at a very specific time and want to get there faster. Try nationalrail.co.uk, they have train times and prices for all the major train companies in the UK.

When are you planning on traveling? Fares from London-Euston to Liverpool-Lime Street start at GBP 11 each way if you book in advance. Domestic bookings are only available 90 days in advance so until then you can’t book a ticket
Cheers

I am only travelling March 2011. Still a ways away, but trying to prepare a budget as best as I can! It seems that the transportation costs will be close to 50% of my budget! (when you factor in flight, eurail pass, reservation fees, couchettes, other modes such as ferry and possible bus…). It seems to be about 40% of my budget. Hopefully that is about what I should be budgeting anyway!
