Going to travel Germany
Fri, 07/04/2014 - 00:50
I am going to Germany for 4 weeks. I am going with my friends. I think travel insurance is essential in every part of the world. I am looking for some information about travel insurance policy of German government. Can anyone help me to take the right decision?
I can’t tell where you are from, but that makes a difference in whether or not you need travel insurance, and where you can get it.
First, make a list of what type of events you want insured. Many young people feel they don’t need medical insurance; old people feel they do. If you are hosteling, you probably don’t need renter’s insurance; it’s not like you have booked a $12,000 week at a fancy hotel.
Once you know what you need, look at what you already have. Some US medical care insurance covers, at least partially, treatment in other countries. Some credit cards offer some insurance coverage; I think my mastercard offers a million dollars of coverage if I die in a plane crash and bought the ticket with the mastercard. Governments don’t, to my knowledge, sell travel insurance; insurance companies do. Travel sites and airline sites often sell travel insurance, or at least refer you to an agent. Be prepared to do a lot of close reading and questioning when you are shopping. I looked at one policy that seemed to say they would repatriot me if I had a serious injury or disease; I thought that meant they would medivac me to my home; buried in the policy was their promise to medivac me to the nearest treating hospital. I passed on that.
Also, there are stories of people who needed medical care overseas, and were not charged, apparently because some countries provide free coverage to their citizens, and the doctors have no one to fill out the forms you would need if you paid cash. My wife had a UTI in Amsterdam. We found a doctor. He charged 30 Euro for the visit, and even filled out a treatment report in English (I needed that to make a claim with our insurance) and pointed to a nearby pharmacy, which charged 10 Euro (these figures are estimates; it was years ago, but I clealy remembered how low their prices were) for the antibiotic. When we got home, I filed a claim with my HMO and after six months of hassling, I got my money, or at least some of it. They never explained why the dollar/Euro conversion rate for two claims of treatment on the same day, filed the same day, differed.

Thanks for your help. I also got some information about health insurance in Germany. One of my German Facebook friend recommended me to visit http://www.covomo.co… . I got some information from this site. It is saying that i can get health insurance under one condition, I have to provide my European Healthcare Insurance card. So as a citizen of EU, I think i will get health insurance easily.
I want to travel too! But it is costly and I am so busy for it. Germany is a good choice Tiff! Are you a song lover? Next time one thinks link removed by moderator to a concert tour show are too much, think about what the expenses of touring are. Groups practically go broke taking their show on the highway, which is something that should give one pause next time they consider unlawfully installing songs.
