A Good Bit of Pamplona Advice
Tue, 05/15/2007 - 05:31
A lot of people going to the fiesta do not even realise that it goes on until the 14th July. In addition if you do want to go for the kick off, you should get into town on the 5th as it is virtually impossible to travel get yourself sorted and get down into the town hall square with your cold champagne and dressed in your whites by 10.00am on the 6th. Now a lot of people like the start and it is very very wild, but the bulls do not run until the morning of the 7th. But the main reason I advise people not to go for the first few days, is that it is also the weekend this year. hence you have thousands of people from all over Spain and France who will come down, plus added to all the bus trips from the UK means that the town will be overcrowded and will not be able to cope. The basic sanitation breaks down pretty quick and you will find yourself queuing for 40 mins for a toilet that is a bit rough to say the least. The bars will be impossibly full and the streets will be a pickpockets dream, with people only being able to push through 100 yards in 15 mins. As for the bullruns they will be a nightmare, people will not be able to run because of the crush. In addition the police will clear a lot of people off the course and prevent them from running, so many will miss out on the chance. If you must see the kick off then come up on the 5th stay one night and then party during the day and then catch a train out of town, rest up for a couple of days and then return midweek. That is a very cunning plan.
Im planning to buy a Eurail pass…will that get me into Pamplona? I will be coming from Barcelona…would I need to take the train somewhere then take a bus the rest of the way or will the Eurail pass get me where I need to be?
Trains go all the way into Pamplona. But they do get busy at fiesta time.
I don’t have EURORAIL pass this year….. just booked straight tickets. When booking this week (the 14th of june) we could only get 1st class seats from Barcelona. Its booked to the yards!!!!! Will worth the train cost to get into town though
