Grape picking in france
Fri, 03/25/2005 - 01:33
anyone have any favorite vineyards to work at or any recommendations. I have E.U. citizenship.

It sounds glamourous, but you’ll probably make a helluva lot more $$$ at home. Let ‘em pick their own damn grapes!
Hey,
Have you considered wwoofing?
It doesnt pay…but you get accomodation and food on an organic farm.

Chucko, it does sound glamorous, but it’s not. If you’re willing to do hard work (for little pay), go for it.
Your EU citizenship may not even come in handy. They’re probably going to pay you under the table. Plus, you’ll be competing with thousands of undocumented immigrants for the same jobs. Not that there are many positions available. If the farmer is young, or if he has able-bodied sons (and if the vineyard isn’t too large) there really is no reason to hire a stranger.
If you’re serious about this, there’s "good" news. Although wine/grape harvest season is only from August to October (depending on the region), vineyards need to be cared for year-round. Winter, for example, is when they prune the vines.
Good luck!
