A great evening in Munich
City: Munich, Germany
While I was writing A couple days in Munich in my hostel lobby, a guy (Ozzy) bought me a beer and basically told me to come and be social. I finished up the post and then headed over to the table where he and a couple other people were chatting and drinking. He turned out to be a tour guide for a neighboring hostel, Wombats, and had only met the other people at the table about 20 minutes earlier. We had an enjoyable night of drinking and chatting but near the end of the night we were in the mood for some food. When we mentioned the Kabob place around the corner he kind of scoffed and said something like, “Thats for mincies, I will send you guys to get some real food.” He proceeded to give us some form of drunken instructions as to where to go (which turned out to be quite good) and gave us a piece of paper and said “Give this to the person who serves you”.
Me and my two new friends headed off to check this place out. It turns out that he sent us to the Augustiner Braustuber (an Augustiner Brewhouse). We gave our server the piece of paper and a couple minutes later we each got a mass and plate of more meat than I think I have ever seen on a plate. It was a 1/4 duck, a pork knuckle and a pork cutlet of some sort, served with a side of sauerkraut and a potato dumpling. (attached are some photos i took with my phone after I was partway through it.) After the meal we got a blueberry pancake type thing that was topped with whipped cream which was incredible.
We had an amazing time and were barely able to finish all of the food. It was one of my favorite experiences in Munich.

Food looks great! How much did it cost?
My mouth is watering. It is great you have got off to a good start meeting fun and interesting people. I love duck and pork knuckle, but here in Canada it can sometimes be expensive.
How much did it cost? Ya that’s a good question. If I wasn’t 3 sheets to the wind at that point, I would probably have a really good answer for you. haha…
If I remember correctly, it was just under 50 euros for:
all told, it worked out to about 16 or 17 euros each…
