Open any magazine or newspaper today and you’ll find some article concerning the modern day phenomenon as ‘Global Warming’
There is no denying that it now affects everything we do. It threatens our comfort and conveniences whilst being the centre of today’s conversations.

With countless scientific evidence supporting climate change, it’s preposterous to deny these claims and the few people who do; they are dismissed at the same level as those who deny the holocaust.

The theory of climate change –note; the theory—is not a new thing. But as of late, we can’t go through day without hearing about it, and the trend seems to continue to get stronger.

On March 8th 2007, on Channel 4 (UK). The Great Global warming swindle was first aired.

It was a highly controversial documentary film made by British television producer Martin Durkin.

The film showcases scientists, economists, politicians, writers, and others who are skeptical of the scientific consensus on anthropogenic global warming. Publicity for the programme states that man-made global warming is “a lie” and “the biggest scam of modern times”[/i]
 [/i]
As an environmentally cautious person, I watched the movie here in Australia, after Channel 7 (Australia) aired the documentary. The network setup a panel of scientist, environmentalists to debate (yes, debate) over the very persuasive claims and evidence made by the documentary.

The Video is right here. It’s a definite watch that will give the other side of the coin.

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3028847519933351566

Some of the claims and evidence are far too long to put on one post, so I’ll just give some links.

wow Icbites, you are so smart and so informed.  You are probably the first person to ever see this and there will probably a big movement that follows because of your discovery.  I bet women just go crazy for you.

While we are on the subject. While actively denying or ignoring the cause as well as the very fact of global worming, the governments, most notably those of Russia, Denmark, and Canada, scramble in a mad rash to claim the Polar Arctic region for themselves to drill for oil once it melts.

I’ve noticed changes in the official manifesto terminology over the past several years. It started out being called “Man-made global warming” or (human-induced g.w.). Then it just became “Global Warming” then “Climate Change,” and now “Theory of Climate Change.”

The documentary did bring up some good points. It explains how ‘Global Warming’ is being bastardized by the media, and the whole ‘green’ market is just a means of making more money.

The media and Hollywood do a good job of bastardizing scientific theories. Once the theories are filtered through Hollywood or reported on TV it is already blurred with things that make entertainment.

Take the movie ‘Day after tomorrow’ for an example, a good movie based off the Global warming phenomenon, but it is filled with events which are scientifically impossible, and would never happen in real life (or to that scale)

We see persuasive pictures of Polar bears clinging to life on a melting block of ice in the arctic, and we feel all guilty inside. What we don’t exactly take into account is that Ice breaks off in the summer and forms back in the winter, it’s a seasonal process that’s been happening since the Ice Age.  I’m not saying
Global warming isn’t slowly melting our Ice Caps and making our ocean levels rise, but If you were to go back 500 years from now, I’m sure you could get an identical photograph. My point is that the truth is blurred by media, and there is lots of money to be had because of this. Hence ‘Bastardizing’ science.[:@]

People have a hard time separating fact from fiction, and with bullshit networks like CNN – Who’s to blame them?

Well, that’s my rant. I feel better.

Thats why I gets my news from the AlJazeera, and from dwop.

Try this experiment at home boys and girls: Prepare a glass of water with ice in it. When the ice melts, does the water level rise?

Well, here is another experiment for you Don. Empty a bag-full of ice on your kitchen table in the morning. Tell us what you observe when you get back from work.

Of course it does, what does that have to do with anything?

Does a depleted AAA battery weigh less than a fully charged one?  Does data have mass?  If you throw a lit flashlight, will the it travel faster than the speed of light?

I’ve been connecting the dots all my life but thanks anyway…

You are correct suggesting that arctic ice is floating anyway and can’t have any effect on ocean level whether it melts or not.

But antarctic ice is not floating. If/once it melts sea level will rise (estimates vary by how much). Same applies to glaciers in Greenland and elsewhere.

So if you can’t get a bag of ice in Norway, here is the answer: mess in the kitchen.

Yep, I’m with you Seva.

Whatever happened to “Ozone” and the “Ozone Hole” (that one was over Antarctica wasn’t it?). All because Americans were in love with their aerosol deodorants. Ironically, I find aerosols in all the shops in Denmark, a Kyoto country btw, and hardly ever—if ever—notice them during my sojourns across Amurrika whenever I get the chance to wisit. Has the Ozone Hole Conspiracy run it’s course? Or is it part of the Human-Induced Global Warm… er, I mean, Theory of Climate Change?

I remember the ozone scare of the 80’s, everyone was in a tizzy cuz’ they had to find alternates to aerosel Hairspray.  In fact, I think that killed the big hair movement.

Whatever happened to the ozone layer?  Does it still exist?  Has the hole been patched up yet?  Where’d it go?

The Ozone layer is recovering.

Unless…I suppose….the Ozone layer scare was all part of a global scam to force CFC makers out of business!!  Those bastard environmental scam artists!  The global economy has suffered immensely because of them and their Ozone shit!

Although any self-respecting anti-CFC conspirator would tell you that enough of that stuff got released into the atmosphere to keep thinning the ozone layer for decades to come.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t there a 70-year lag time from the time pollution in the air actually reaches the atmosphere?

Prevalent theory is that CFCs get evenly mixed in the atmosphere pretty quickly and remain there until something happens. Like, for example, react with ozone.

Green technologies, carbon tax etc is the new bubble to replace the
mortgage one popping in the US right now…. markets are about
to go under because of the bad timing… Iraqi oil is slow to market…. dollar
is sliding too fast (debt ceiling is now rising exponentially).

With cheap energy now gone… what better way to wring more money
out of the sheeple is green taxes and goods.

BTW: Climate change is real… in part is 90% a natural planetry climate reversal and it
will destroy civilization as we know it over the next 500 years.

No point in trying to apportion blame…. it’s the fact that
the climate will change regardless of cause which makes the
greenhouse doubters look stupid.

Okay, it wasn’t the car fumes but the eastern seaboard of the USA
is under 15 feet of seawater… feeling smug now ??

jboy,

It’s also funny when you look at greenhouse doubters’ logic:

The greenhouse effect is all hype, so let’s stop tryign to be green, right?  Apart from the greenhouse effect, the doubters won’t tell you that going green will also reduce the amounts of toxic fumes pumped into the atmosphere above cities and towns across both the industrialized and developing worlds.  If not for global warming, then at least let’s cut down on emissions for the sake of breathing in cleaner air.   The smog above Beijing or Los Angeles might not make the global climate hotter (according to the doubters), but it isn’t exactly harmless to breathe in either….ozone inversion days aren’t very fun.

Then again, jboy, you can’t reason with these people.  They will find any excuse to resist change and avoid admitting they’re wrong.

God forbid we live in apartments in more compact cities, and rely more on walking and public transport!  OMG what a reduction in our quality of life!  We’ll go back to the stone age without our massive homes (with far more rooms than we need), and our SUVs!  OMG!  My life expectancy will shrink!  I’m threatened by this!  I don’t want to switch to wind energy, or at least nuclear.  I want to rely on coal and lignite!  Let’s try as much as possible to look for reasons to deny what 99.9999% of scientests are saying, and let’s buy into all the oil-industry propaganda!

Exactly LTB,

there one certain Mr Alex Jones that runs a conspiracy theorist website.
He buys into everyhting like, NWO, 911 and bush pulled the trigger and
so on. But one shock is that he’s a global climate change doubter. Surprising
that his site runs articles on Chemtrails (govt weather modification program)
So which is it? Govt trying to start/stop weather changes or no global warming?

Contradictory or what?

Does this come as a surprise ??? Nope, he’s a redneck who drives a 4.5 litre
pickup with a gunrack in the back and doesn’t want to pay taxes.

That’s what kills me about americans…. lean govt and no taxes and petro-culture.
They enjoy the benefits of taxation in nice highways and so on but if we gave them
their wish of no federal taxation and sent them back to wild west civic conditions
they go crazy.

Can’t have your cake and eat it.

The masses will only get global warming when the food growing capacity of the world
is impacted … even if bangladesh disappeared tomorrow most amercians would upgrade
to a hummer without batting an eyelid…. when they start to starve or their house is
underwater…. different story. By then it’s too late

Jboy,

Your observations are spot on.

Unlike you and me, Redneck Yanks don’t see the irony here.  The government tells them to mistrust the government.  Paradoxically, it’s a successful&nbsploy at harvesting a complacent population.

How?

Rules and regulations that benefit society are unecessary the government tells Americans because of its incompetence.  Paradoxically, this has created a nation of brainwashed robots who place greater trust in the government’s decisions from the lack of environmental commitment, to inadequate health care for Americans, and a disastrous foreign policy that meets the needs of the few.  And as usual the American leadership will put an outdated 20th-century capitalism-vs-socialism spin on all of this, in an age when left-wing parties have moved towards the center and right-wing politicians (like Merkel and Sarkozy) have&nbspledged a greater focus on environmental efforts.

Yet here in the USA the old paradigm continues, with the ruling classes having convinced Americans to equate “government” with “state,” (when in reality, the government is raping the state, inside and out).  And it all happens under Americans’ noses, just as you’ve observed, jboy.  Which adds more irony to the complex and bewildering organism that is America: the incompetent government will throw&nbsprecious resources at Iraq (billions of dollars + American lives) in the name of the state, of course and with high public support from the population and the media…all while convincing us that a comprehensive health care system and environmental research and regulation at a fraction of the cost would strain the resources of the state.

But what else do you expect from a nation that defines itself ideologically, instead of historically/ethno-culturally (like every other nation on the planet), coupled with a complacent population that buys into the politically correct propoganda?

In the words of Bruce Sprinstein: “born in the USA” [:@]

You may not have to wait that long …
You’ll be happy to hear that Pope Benedict came out about Global Warming at the International (Catholic) Youth Conference last Friday (31 August, 2007).   I wonder if his Papal Infallability applies here …
