Greek Isles to Rome via plane or ferry/train?
Wed, 03/07/2007 - 15:58
Hey all, I’ll be going down to Greece for about 10 days, arriving via ferry from Itlay to Patras then making my way down. My question is coming back, would it be cheaper to take a slow ferry all the way back to Italy from Ios/Santorini and then a train to Rome, or just a cheap flight from Athens to Rome? Time isn’t a huge concern for us, but we would like to avoid 20+ hours on a ferry. Only thing is we have the Eurail pass that covers Italy and Greece and I am not sure if the ferry is included. What yould you people reccommend? How long is each means of transportation? Thanks in advance.
Aegean airlines flies the route between ath and rome fco. I cant personally speak of taking the ferry but to me time while on vacation is the most important thing.
cheers

We ferried one way, and flew Athens to Rome coming back—it wasn’t Aegean, I think it was Olympic.
One option might be to see if you can figure something out with EuropeByAir.
Cool Cil, I think that’s what I will do, ferry there and fly back to Rome.
we will be in corfu for a week in august and will ferry there from venice. time wise is it better to ferry to bari then train to rome or take a bus to athens and fly to rome?
I’m going from Corfu to Rome as well, and had the same questions.
I think the cheapest flights from Corfu to Rome are 120 Euros from what I researched.
Compare that to Eurail pass, depending on how much you want to spend
