My brother and I are planning a two week trip (13 days of travel, 2 days in airplanes) to Guatemala and Belize in August. This is the route we’re thinking of following:
Arrive Guatemala City Sat pm (8/10) (stay the night there)
Antigua
Lake Atitlan (stay in San Pedro or Panajachel?)
ChiChi
Xela (Quetzaltenango)- we’d like to check out the georgina hot springs and if there was time, we’d do a 5 day language program here. Not sure if we can fit in everything we want to see if we do the school though. Unless some of the places mentioned are doable as day trips from Xela.
Tikal (stay in Flores?)
Caye Caulker (Belize)-
Fly out of Guatemala City Sun am (8/25)
I don’t know how many days we’ll need in each place or what the best way to get from point A/B/C to the next is. Any advice on whether or not these are good destinations is also welcome. We’re into doing everything- we want to see Mayan ruins and also do adventure stuff like kayaking/rafting/scuba diving and practice our Spanish. A few days relaxing (and hopefully diving) in Caulker at the end of the trip is the goal. Are there any less touristy places than the ones I’ve mentioned that are still safe? Any advice in general will be a great help. Cheers!
