Has anyone ever done this?
Sun, 01/09/2005 - 23:40
Has anyone ever used 1st Contact to set up a bank account in the UK? It sounds like a good idea, and there’s a link from the visitBritian site so I don’t think it dodgy but I’d like to talk to someone who has actually used it if there is someone out there.

Any feedback would be appreciated

I don’t know what first contact is, but if you would like to set up a bank account in the UK i can tell you what I did. BUNAC refers people to the Aldwych Branch of Nat West in central London. If you bring a)your passport b) a reference letter from your bank at home on letter headed paper c)proof of UK address (if you use BUNAC they give you an address that you can use.) c) 100 pounds deposit to start the account.
I don’t think that I’ve missed anything out.
Thanks for your suggestion Kathryn, I’ve already recieved my working visa and have accomidation set up with friends, so I don’t see a point in going through them or Swap, if I’ve already accomplished half the things the want to help you with.
UK banks no matter who you go through, want a proof of address, but with 1st Conact, you can use a letter of refrence from a friend or relative that you’re staying with and then they have to show proof of residence which is a little easier considering they’ve all lived there since July. So that’s why I was going to go through them. And then 1st contact also shows you job opportuinties, has meetings, will help you look for accomidation, all the things you need when you get there, minus the huge cost. It’s only, 25-30 pounds.
Anyway I think I’m going to go through them, I’ve heard a few good things from some people.
