Help: Travel Plans
Thu, 04/17/2008 - 04:30
I’ve been reading through some posts and the information seems to be very helpful.
My girlfriend and I are relocating from AUS to the UK for a year in mid July 2008 and are interested in organising a trip for our first 3-4 weeks of the stay.
We are looking to goto
– Greece (Athens & Greekislands)
– Italy (Covering all main towns)
– Spain (Maybe)
– Also open to other suggestions
We don’t have HEAPS of money, but enough to travel with so we are looking for tips on how to get around cost effectively but also not taking too much time? Any suggested itinerary’s that anyone can come up with?
We will also be looking to stay in cheaper hotels or hostels with private rooms for 2. So any suggestions on this would be welcomed!
Let me know what you guys think!

I think you’ll find that flying between the three countries is best and cheapest. Use www.whichbudget.com to see which low cost airlines fly which routes. Within Greece, ferries are probably best with maybe a bus or two, but look for cheap flights to some of the islands. Within Italy, trains are your best bet — particularly if you can use the slightly slower local and regional trains. You can price tickets at www.trenitalia.com Register and get a password before your trip. Within Spain, you can get around by train, but you might find that buses are as convenient and are significantly cheaper.
