Help understanding visa requirements
Fri, 04/18/2008 - 17:06
Hello,
I am going on a study abroad trip for a month in the summer. I will be in the UK for thirty days with a group from my school. I want to go to Paris for a weekend. I have a U.S. passport and I have lived in the U.S. my entire life. Do I need any kind of visa to go from the UK to France and back for that one weekend? Also, my school didn’t tell us we need any kind of visa to go to the UK in the first place but I wanted to check that I didn’t.
Thanks for any replies. If possible, could you also tell me where I could find this information myself? I’ve been looking, but I’m not sure what I find is reliable/up-to-date.

As a US citizen you don’t need a visa to study abroad in UK for a month, nor do you need one to go to Paris for a couple of days.
There is a sticky on top of the flight forum here that provides info about those countries where US citizens may go without visas and for how long.
In most cases the most sure way to find the latest information concerning the specific country is to visit the website of the embassy or a consulate of that particular country.
No. For a weekend, no. Only for stay longer than 3 months.
Your school didn’t tell you to get visa, because you don’t need any.
Visit the website of the United States Dept. of State, Bureau of Consular Affairs at

If you have any questions about Prague or Czech and Slovak republics, ask me.
If you only want to search train or bus connection within Czech&Slovakia and/or to neighboring countries, use www.cp.sk or www.idos.cz search engines. For domestic transport, they also show prices.
