Help! What backpack?
Thu, 05/11/2006 - 05:22
I’m leaving for a 6 week trip to Europe on May 20th and need to get a pack for the ride. Some people have recomended a "travel pack" that doubles as a backpack (with internal suspension) and suitcase with daypack. Should i go with the traditonal 60-70L expedition pack or get one of these "travel packs".

Either is fine and I use both. The features that travel packs often offer, such as panel loading, detachable daypacks, covers for straps when you check them on planes, handles on the side and top, etc. are definitely nice, but not essential. My top piorities are quality and fit. If you do go with a travel pack, you can’t go wrong with Eagle Creek packs (I’ve got four). I also like Deuter packs (I have two) and I’ve got my eye on this one: http://www.tahoemoun…
I think it’s a great size, will fit a variety of torso sizes, offers some really good features, and the price is pretty good.
To find just the bag/pack for you, I suggest going to www.travelite.org. It has a section where it details many types of bags and the benefits of each. That way you can choose your own.
Agree with Augustin. Whatever works for you, as long as it fits.
I have a "travel pack" (REI Tourlite) and I usually keep the straps tucked in/covered, but it sure is handy to be able to wear it when I need to. Have had it for about 7 years now, I think. Still good as new.
For anyone who is interested:
REI is having a sale right now, check them out.REI
