High Sierra Bag?
Thu, 04/09/2009 - 17:41
Hi There, I am having a bit of trouble finding a bag that will work well for me. I will be on about a month trip, and want something as small as possible with a detachable day-pack. I am having a very tough time finding anything decent, without getting outrageous in price.
A friend I know has been backpacking before and he lent me a rick steves backpack, I forget the model, but it is carry on size and seems decent. It just seems like it might be a good idea to invest some money and get a bag I can have for myself for a while, seeing as I want to make backpacking a somewhat reoccuring thing.
Anyways, I found this high sierra transport bag:
and was wondering if anyone has some input on it? it seems like a good deal and everything I am looking for (as far as size and the detachable day-pack)
Any suggestions would be great!

I use an Aztec bag. It’s a pretty good bag by my reckoning especially for general backpacking. It is going for a reasonable price as well.

High Sierra has a great reputation and this bag is the perfect size for Europe. If you have to stuff this bag with the seams ready to burst, you have packed too much. Read the reviews on that site. Read all the directions that come with the bag and check out all the adjustments, hidden pockets and zippers. Most common problem with backpacks is that people abuse them by overstuffing, step on the buckles & straps or they get caught in doors, handles and seats while walking on trains. Always check your buckles and straps so that the buckles or clasps don’t come off the end of the straps or the straps are loose while walking by obstacles that can catch your straps on trains, subways and buses.
All new packs have the great design that when you take off the daypack, it will attach on the front of your shoulder straps on your chest. See photos at lower left corner of your link.
It is a good purchase.
I love this bag, from the reviews I’ve seen of it.
it is one of the ones I was thinking of getting too! Let us know how it turns out if you do end up getting it…
